About The Event

This 3 day “10 steps to growth” online programme is suitable for any eligible business. Those who haven’t yet started active trading but have a business idea that they want to bring to market will find that they will be able to identify what they need to do to give them the best possible chance of a successful start and then proceed into growth. Those who are already trading will be able to identify what they might want to change in their current business activities and then carry on growing the business further. Once you have identified the barriers you want and need to overcome, we can personalise a support programme of mentoring and/or purpose designed skills workshops designed around the needs that past experience tells us are very common shared requirements.
This approach was originally developed for the award-winning London Fusion Programme, in which Goldsmiths was a leading partner. The format has since been used successfully with over 200 businesses in the UK by the tutor, Philip Ternouth.
The topics covered in the bootcamp workshop are: -
• What do we mean by a growth rather than lifestyle business?
• Summary of the 10 barriers
• From client preference to market segmentation
• Sales pipeline – the key to bootstrapping
• Marketing and promotion
• Staff and culture – why do people want to work with you (particularly critical for a service business growth)?
• Systems and processes – dealing with the “day to day”
• Growing the product and service portfolio
• Sales Channel
• Positioning (you will leave with at least the beginnings of a “positioning statement”
• Scalability – plan to avoid the problems that increasing your business by a factor of 10 might cause!
After addressing the 10 barriers we will discuss the nature and possible benefits of bootstrap finance compared with other sources from which to invest in the business.
Breakdown by day:
Day 1: Tuesday 28th April 2020
Aim: The Foundations of growth – importance of the distinctive value proposition & Bootstrapping the Business for growth
Learning outcome: Introductions, overview of the barriers to growth & how the bootcamp works in supporting the identification of individual business needs. The challenge and importance of barriers 1 & 2.
Day 2: Tuesday 5th May 2020
Aim: Implementing Growth plans; the key contents of an implementation plan once barriers 1 & 2 are overcome
Learning outcome: Picks up with barrier 3 - marketing comms in growing the pipeline, and in then in turn barriers 4 (recruitment & culture) 5 (infrastructure systems & service delivery), 6, product & service development & 7 sales channel management.
Day 3: Tuesday 12th May 2020
Aim: Onward and upward. Positioning and branding to accelerate growth, and the importance of scaling to accommodate it. Financing growth through bootstrapping.
Learning outcome: Identifies the importance of positioning (8) and branding (9) to overcome the communications barrier and then barrier 10, ways of scaling the business. Closes with ways of financing growth & the key principles of bootstrapping. Includes a breakout session to discuss ideas for positioning statements with other delegates
