About The Event
This workshop on 'Types of Funding, Raising Investment and Company Valuation' will provide participants with a snapshot of the funding that start-up’s and new businesses can apply for. It will cover the types of funding available to early stages businesses, including angel investment, crowdfunding, venture capital, bank loans and several others. The second half of the workshop will cover the initial steps to take when raising investment as well as discussing how to value your business, including the factors that drive company valuation and the factors that destroy company value. Participants can expect to leave with a well-rounded insight into the options available to raise money for their start-up and how justify their company valuations when approaching funders.
Prepared and Delivered by:
Dr Salman Malik is the founder and CEO of Micro Spray Technologies Ltd; a science-driven start-up that aims to revolutionise particle engineering in high-value markets. Salman incorporated the company immediately after being awarded his PhD from University College London (UCL), where he focused on engineering multifunctional microstructures using aerosol generation methods.
As well as being an engineer and academic, Salman is an entrepreneur. He has experience of raising funds through private angel investors, government-backed grants, and business plan competitions and has pitched successfully at numerous events for non-dilutive funds. Salman has solely raised more than £350k and was awarded scholarships, travel grants, bursaries and prizes also throughout his time at University.
In 2016, Salman was awarded a prestigious Scottish Enterprise (SE)-funded Enterprise Fellowship from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE); a year-long training program that enables promising science and technology researchers to grow into successful entrepreneurs.
Salman sits on the Industry Advisory Board for UCL’s Faculty of Engineering and was recently appointed as an Associate Academic at London South Bank University, where he teaches on Enterprise Workshops. He aims to share his experience and knowledge with aspiring entrepreneurs looking to commercialise their ideas and build high-growth start-up’s.
